Standard Trencher
Skid steer & small loaders
Side Shift Trencher is the modern version of the trencher we first developed. Two options are available either with a 900mm or 1200mm maximum digging depth. The trencher chain has a pitch of 1.654", with a 33,000lbs breaking strain. Trenching widths range from 100mm up to 350mm wide (50mm increments).
All trenchers are supplied with a crumber, twin clearing augers, quick attach frame and hydraulic couplings. With every chain width ordered with the trencher, additional crumber adaptor plates are supplied to clean the full width of the trench.
To tension the chain, grease is pumped into a cavity in the nose sprocket guide (similar operation to tensioning tracks on large crawler type earthmoving machinery). A buffer spring located in the boom takes up shock loads from the nose sprocket.
A robust hydraulic motor that directly drives the drive sprocket via a drive shaft drives the trencher. This type of set-up reduces wear parts (eg. gearboxes), requires no on-going servicing, and achieves high start-up torque.
The drive sprocket has a tapered bore making it easier to remove the sprocket and refit the sprocket so that it lines up with the other sprockets on the trencher. A labyrinth seal beside the drive sprocket stops dirt from entering the bearing housing thereby protecting the bearings from premature wear.
The trencher boom is fitted with a nylon insert for easy replacement when worn. Bisalloy (high grade wear plate) is fitted to the top and of the boom and trencher main frame to combat wear caused by chain travelling over these areas. The nose sprocket, idler sprocket and auger clearing sprocket bearings are all triple sealed to help achieve as long a service life as possible. Dust washers fitted on the nose and idler sprockets help to prevent trenched debris from eroding the integrity of the bearing's seals.
The main frame is attached to a 1500mm wide quick attach frame by side plates which makes it possible to offset the trencher to one side (usually the left), for trenching close to wall, fences etc. The overall length of the 900mm dig depth trencher (with the crumber bar folded back) is 2200mm, making it possible to fit the trencher width way across the back of a truck. The side shift trencher is solidly constructed and can also run a rock chain.
*Digging depths are calculated with the boom at a 50° angle to the ground, it is not the boom length.
